Granny Squares Tutorial

Hi!

I promised to make a tutorial on GSQ, and here it is. – I decided to post pictures instead of a video, because I believe, it’s easier to learn from pictures than from fast video tuts.

Ok, let’s start.

First, you need to do a slipknot. If you don’t know how or (like me ^^) don’t like it, just do a regular knot. It works well.

Then, do 4 singlecrochets!

Chain last and first SC together:

You will then get a ring:

If you want, just make the ring wider with your finger.

Chain 2. (make 2 SC)

Then, do 3 double-crochets into your ring:

(Yarn over the hook,

into the ring

again yarn over the hook

through the ring. Now, you have 3 chains on your hook!

Now pull the yarn through 2, and then again

through the last remaining 2 loops.

Repeat three times.

Then, do 2 singlecrochets! (It’s important, so don’t forget!)

Then again, 3 doublecrochets!

And 2 singlecrochets. Then again 3 DC and 2 SC. And then, 2 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) doublecrochets.

After you have done 2 doublecrochets, add your loop to the second chain of the first 2 singlecrochets of this round you had done.

You might want to do a colourchange, but if you are a beginner, just use one colour, it’s easier!

If you do a colourchange, chain 2 double-yarned SC:

Then, chain 2 SC.

If you use one colour, chain 4 at once.

Again, 3 doublecrochets into the hole. (there will be a hole from the last round)

After you have done 3 DCs, do 2 singlecrochets again.

Then, 3 doublecrochets into the next “hole” followed by 2 singlecrochets. And now, ATTENTION (!) – remember you want your piece to become a SQUARE so you need to add the next 3 doublecrochets into the SAME hole.

This is what it looks like then.

2 Singlecrochets follow.

And now you  know, what follows 3 DC in the next “hole”, then 2 SC and 3 DC into the same hole followed by 2 SC….

Add 2 DC to the last hole and then chain into the second loop from your first stitch like you’ve done on the last round.

Have you been afraid to never make it to a “square” shape?! HA, now you see, it works!

You might now wanna do a colourchange (again) or use the same colour you’ve used before and chain 4, then add 3 DC, 2 SC…. and again and again. It could go on like foreveeeeeeer! But keep in mind that you only need to do 3 DC and 2 SC twice on the edges

I hope, this could help you out, I tried to keep it as easy as possible. Oh, and I noticed how much I love the colours I used <3 So pretty.
